Pyro Brand at Firexpo: A Strong Response to Battery Fire Safety Solutions
Pyro Brand’s exhibit at Firexpo generated strong industry interest in lithium-ion battery fire safety, with particular focus on Genius Group storage and transport solutions and Pyrophobic passive fire protection products. The event confirmed the growing need for practical, tested solutions to manage battery risks across storage, transport, OEM development, warehousing, recycling and energy storage applications.
Pyro Brand (Pty) Ltd was proud to exhibit at Firexpo, where we had the opportunity to engage with fire safety professionals, engineers, risk managers, insurers, facility managers, logistics operators, OEMs and industry stakeholders on one of the most important emerging fire risks: lithium-ion battery safety.
The exhibition confirmed what we are already seeing across the market. Battery fire risk is no longer a future concern. It is a current and growing challenge across warehousing, transport, renewable energy, backup power, electric mobility, recycling, manufacturing and commercial facilities.
Throughout the event, there was strong interest in the practical solutions offered by Pyro Brand, particularly the Genius Group storage and transport systems and Pyrophobic passive fire protection products.
Strong Interest in Genius Group Battery Storage and Transport Solutions
One of the key discussion points at Firexpo was the safe handling, storage and transport of lithium-ion batteries, especially damaged, defective or critical batteries.
Pyro Brand showcased Genius Group solutions that use PyroBubbles® technology for the storage and transport of lithium-ion batteries. These solutions are designed to support companies that handle batteries during logistics, warehousing, aftersales support, recycling, emergency response, OEM development and energy storage operations.
Visitors were particularly interested in how these systems can assist with:
- Battery quarantine areas
- Damaged or defective battery storage
- Safe transport of lithium-ion batteries
- EV, e-bike and power tool battery risks
- Battery recycling and waste handling
- Warehouse and logistics fire risk management
- Emergency response and post-incident containment
The conversations made it clear that many businesses are looking for more than a standard fire extinguisher or basic storage cabinet. They need engineered solutions that address the real behaviour of lithium-ion batteries, including thermal runaway, extreme heat release, flammable gases, jet flames and re-ignition risk.
Promoting Pyrophobic Passive Fire Protection Technology
Pyro Brand also promoted Pyrophobic Systems products, including LithiumPrevent, which generated valuable interest from stakeholders involved in product design, battery pack development, electrical protection and OEM applications.
LithiumPrevent is a passive fire protection material developed for lithium-ion battery and electrical applications. It is intended to assist with fire spread control, thermal insulation and protection of critical components at design level.
This was an important part of our Firexpo discussions because battery fire safety should not only be addressed after a battery fails. It must also be considered during product development, enclosure design and system integration.
Typical areas of interest included:
- Battery pack protection
- Cell holders and spacers
- Electrical components
- Busbar protection
- Fire-resistant profiles and sheets
- Battery enclosure protection
- Energy storage system components
- OEM battery safety design
The response from the market showed that there is a growing awareness that passive fire protection has an important role to play in reducing risk before an incident escalates.
Key Message from Firexpo
The key takeaway from Firexpo was clear: the industry is actively looking for better lithium-ion battery fire safety strategies.
Traditional fire protection systems remain important, but they do not solve every part of the battery risk profile. Lithium-ion batteries require a broader approach that considers prevention, containment, storage, transport, detection, suppression, isolation and post-incident control.
A proper battery fire safety strategy should consider:
- How batteries are stored
- How damaged batteries are isolated
- How batteries are transported
- How thermal runaway is managed
- How fire spread is limited
- How re-ignition risk is reduced
- How facilities protect people, property and operations
- How OEMs design safer battery systems from the start
Firexpo gave Pyro Brand the opportunity to have these important conversations directly with the people responsible for managing fire risk in real-world environments.
Thank You to Everyone Who Visited Pyro Brand
Pyro Brand would like to thank everyone who visited our stand at Firexpo and took the time to engage with us on lithium-ion battery fire safety, Genius Group solutions, PyroBubbles® applications and Pyrophobic passive fire protection products.
The level of interest and technical discussion at the event confirmed the need for practical, tested and application-specific battery fire safety solutions in South Africa and across the African market.
